The HUB office in St John, population 500, was originally established in the 60's as Nagel Insurance, and purchased in 1988 by AIA Insurance, home office, Pullman WA. All AIA offices in Eastern Washington were merged into HUB on January 1st, 2012. At that time, St John's HUB office was stilled housed in the original Nagel/AIA location; a 500 square foot space, concrete block structure, on ""main"" street, just west of the present HUB location. Main street in St John is actually State Route 23, which connects Highway 195 to the East at Steptoe, with I-90 to West at Sprague. Being equidistant to Spokane and to Pullman, with just an hour’s drive in either direction to access a flight at Spokane International, or a Pac-12 sporting event at WSU, St John is far from the middle of nowhere.
As business expansion needs dictated, in late 2013, HUB relocated to the office space of the retired local newspaper, which had published 6 editions per year. The building was updated by HUB with 5 separate workstations and an improved break room. The new digs tripled the usable office space and provides enough room for operations and staff-client comfort, while maintaining the country feel that prevails amidst the rolling wheat fields of Eastern Washington. As the geography implies, the commercial client base includes local farmers, ranchers, and a scattering of small commercial main street operations. Personal lines is an important component in servicing the customer base, much having generational roots dating back to the 60's, of those that “moved off the farm”.
Anchored by staff members, with as much as 30 years of individual expertise in federally back crop insurance and ag related property/casualty, coupled with HUB's broad reach in the agricultural, commercial, and personal insurance marketplace, the St John HUB provides a key element to the continued prosperity for our small town, and neighboring areas, in the heart of Whitman County “On the Palouse”.
